SPECULATOR — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a public comment session on Speculator Tree Farm and surrounding areas. The Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the event Friday, May 30, from 7:30-9 p.m. at Lake Pleasant Central School on Elm Lake Road here. Tom Martin from the DEC Region 5 office in Ray Brook and local DEC officials from the Northville office will be the presenters. This session is being held to provide the community with information about the terms of the conservation easement purchased by New York state and the Interim Easement Plan covering Speculator Tree Farm and surrounding areas, and to provide an opportunity to comment on the Permanent Recreation Plan for the area, which is currently being drafted by DEC. The DEC will give a presentation about the rights acquired by the State, rights remaining with the landowners and the rules for public land use. Martin will also speak about the Permanent Easement planning that has begun and how DEC will be working with the public to define this plan for the future. The session will provide a chance for limited questions and answers following the presentation and will conclude with public comments.
