Assemblyman Clifford W. Crouch, R-Guilford, has headed a call by 60 of his colleagues for the governor to return $1 million to the Snowmobile Trail Development and Maintenance Fund.

The money was lost to the Division of Budget in a general sweep of what was considered surplus money from many funds to solve a deficit in the state budget.

The legislative session ended this week with the funds unreturned. Crouch and other members of the Assembly delivered hundreds of signed petitions from New Yorkers and state legislators from both sides of the aisle to the executive chamber Wednesday.

“This is all about giving money back that never should have been taken in the first place. The $1 million needs to be restored so it can go to the counties and snowmobile clubs who rely on this fund for recreational purposes,” said Crouch.
