Application Deadline: December 05, 2008

What is it: A matching grant program for the acquisition, development, rehabilitation and maintenance of trails and trail-related projects. Funds are available to non-profit organizations, municipal, state and federal agencies, Indian tribal governments and other public agencies and authorities. Funded projects must be identified in, or further a specific goal of, the SCORP and must be available to the general public. Source of funds: Federal Highway Administration.

Who manage it:  In New York, RTP is a program of the NYS Department of Transportation is administered by the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP).

Funds: Federal RTP legislation requires that States use:

  • 40% of their funds apportioned in a fiscal year for diverse recreational trail use
  • 30% for motorized recreation
  • 30% for nonmotorized recreation.

Why: Many clubs use this grant program as a source for purchaseing snowmobile trail grooming equipment.
